TECHNOLOGY
~~~I highly recommend learning a keyboard shortcut every week or two. It’s a fast and efficient way of working!~~~
Keep a piece of paper next to your computer and write down keyboard shortcuts I post here. Practice using each shortcut as often so it becomes muscle memory.
⌨️Keyboard shortcuts
⬆️⬇️Page Up and Page Down keys - Instead of multiple finger scrolls on your mouse, use these keys to move the content through one screen height of a document, spreadsheet, email, webpage and even social media. Try it and you’ll see what I mean.
🏠Ctrl + Home key - takes to back to the top of your document or webpage.
🔚Ctrl + End key - takes to the end of your document or bottom of your webpage.
🔑Alt + Tab keys - To quickly find and open other windows that are open:
Press and hold down Alt then Tab and keep pressing the Tab key to go through the open windows one at a time.
When your desired window is selected, take your finger off the Alt key and that window will appear on top for you to now view/work in.
☑️This is really handy when you have multiple windows open for the same app.
🔖Chrome bookmark folders
Did you know in Chrome where your bookmarks bar is, you can create folders that store multiple bookmarks.
Example below shows all the banking apps in the one folder.
To create a folder in Chrome:
Click the 3 dots at the top right of a Chrome webpage.
Select Bookmarks & Lists
Select Bookmarks Manager then at the top right of the screen click the 3 dots
Select Add New Folder
When you create a new bookmark, add it to your desired folder, or drag current bookmarks into a folder.
To remove bookmarks from a folder, simply drag it out and onto the bookmarks bar or right click and delete.
📅Use Excel’s built in templates
When you open Excel, click on New in the left menu, on the right hand side click on More templates and start searching. There are calendars, budgets, trackers, lists, rosters and so much more.
1. Click New. 2. Click More templates
✅Xero tip - employee has multiple super funds
To pay super to multiple super accounts in payroll, here is one way of doing it. Firstly you’ll need to add both super funds into the Employees Employment tab.
Example you want to pay $20 per pay to the second super fund:
Set up superfund no. 1 as per normal at the statutory rate in their pay template.
Still in the pay template, click on Add Superannuation Line. Use the same super fund but enter -$20.
Click on Add Superannuation Line again - this time you’ll enter the second super fund name with $20.
This way you have 3 super lines in the pay template.
If the net pay is less than the additional super payment resulting in a negative pay, Xero will warn you so you can adjust the super lines for that pay run.
INSIGHT
💨💩 Flatulence
Yes Flatulence. Fart. Pass gas. Cut the cheese. Let one rip. Break wind. Pop off…..
On average, a healthy adult passes gas about 10 to 20 times per day so why do we get embarrassed if one slips out?
We feel embarrassment because it’s a social emotion — something that evolved to help us maintain good relationships and fit in with groups.
🧠 The science behind it
When we do something that might make others think less of us (like farting in public, tripping, or saying something awkward), the amygdala and prefrontal cortex in the brain trigger feelings of self-consciousness.
That leads to the classic signs — blushing, looking away, nervous laughter, or wanting to hide.
😅 Acknowledge it lightly
If it’s obvious, don’t overthink it — just admit it with humour or calmness.
“Oops, sorry about that!”
“Well, that happened!”
A quick, genuine acknowledgment diffuses tension and shows confidence.
😌 Stay relaxed
Take a slow breath and resist the urge to over-apologize or replay it in your head. Most people move on within seconds — it’s usually you who remembers it the longest.
😂 Laugh with (not at) yourself
If the situation allows, use humour kindly. Self-deprecating jokes work best when they’re gentle, not harsh.
🧠 Reframe it
Ask yourself: If someone else did this, would I care?
Usually the answer is “not really.” That shift helps you see that it’s not as big a deal as it feels.
🤝 Remember it’s human
Everyone trips, spills, or farts at some point. Showing that you can handle it with grace actually makes people like you more — it signals confidence and authenticity.
🪞 Bonus: Practice self-compassion
Afterward, talk to yourself the way you’d talk to a friend: “That was awkward, but it’s okay. It happens to everyone.”
That’s the fastest way to stop the “cringe replay” loop in your mind.
🤒What if I’m sick while on annual leave?
According to Fair Work, if you need to take personal leave while you’re on annual leave, the leave type can be changed (if you have sufficient accrued).
Make sure you still follow your employers requirements such as giving notice when you become sick or need to take personal leave (notify asap, don’t wait until you return from leave), and get a medical certificate as backup.
Non-productive but 100% boss-approved (maybe)
💆🏽♀️🧘🏽♀️A great gift idea
Billabong Retreat near the Sydney suburb of Dural offers a Day Retreat as well as overnight stays. I’ve been there 3 or 4 times now and it’s a great place to relax and reset. Think vegetarian food, yoga, massage, swimming in a magnesium pool, bush walks.
👜♀️Share the Dignity Reminder
Bunnings is collecting bag donations from 14 - 30 November 2025.
Get together some friends, buy a handbag or use a second hand one in good clean condition, fill it with goodies suitable for a woman, female teen, or mum and bub and drop it off at the collection box at Bunnings.
😊I promise you will feel awesome after doing this good deed!
✈️🚢🧳Great buys
With the Christmas season coming up, here are some great travel accessories to check out.
Packing cubes - Being the organiser that I am, I love using packing cubes to keep my clothes in order in the suitcase. Here’s a lovely pack of 10 cubes, pick your favourite colour.
Cygnett Power Bank - I bought this 20,000 mAh portable charger for our recent trip to Vietnam and it came in handy a few times. It’s now in our caravan ready for charging our devices when we go off the grid at Christmas time.
Travel Adapter - We used this as well on our recent trip and it works well and has lot’s of ports for multiple devices. It’s compatible with over 150 countries including U.S and Europe.
Before you go…
