🪟Windows key + D

This shortcut hides everything and only shows only your desktop.

If you have confidential or personal stuff on your screen and someone comes by, quickly hide it all. Then press the Windows key + D again to unhide all your windows.

💻 Prep your Spreadsheet before sharing or printing

Here’s how to print a spreadsheet that doesn’t fit well on printed pages. Go through these settings if you intend to share the file, in case the new user wants to print it.

Do a print preview (under File) to see how it looks and what needs fixing.
  1. Using your mouse, highlight the area to be printed, go to Page Layout, Print Area, Set Print Area. That locks the area to be printed.

  2. Go back to Print Preview again and check.

  3. To adjust the margins, at the bottom right corner there is an icon that looks like a page with lines. Click on it and adjust your margins.

If your data still won’t fit well, try these different options:
  1. Still in the Print Preview window – Click on No Scaling menu (see menus under print button and printer name). Select the most suitable option.

  2. Or consider changing from Portrait to Landscape orientation back in the home screen. Page Layout / Orientation.

  3. Or after setting your print area, go to the View menu and you’ll see grey lines on the worksheet where the page breaks are.

    1. Click on Page Break Preview, click anywhere in the sheet and drag the blue lines to where you want the page breaks.

    2. If you use this option depending on your data, you might need to select a heading row that will repeat on each page.

If so, go to Page Layout / Print Titles / click in Rows to repeat at the top, and a little window pops up. Highlight the row number for the heading, then the little arrow box on the far right. You can also repeat this for columns on the left of your data. Print Preview again.

💰 Xero - payroll

While you’re on leave who’s doing the payroll? Will you be forward dating multiple weeks in advance and what about super payments? If you currently pay super weekly, you’ll need to either pay it all straight away or pay it when you come back from leave.

Unfortunately, you can’t forward date super payments.

Storyset - A great alternative to stock images!

Stock images can be so overused and obvious that they are just that, stock images.

I love these free customisable illustrations for presentations and documents, and you don’t even need a login. They are really quick and easy to create.

Here’s why I love Storyset and its images:

  • Choose a style such as clean and flat, cheerful and energetic.

  • Choose from different characters and set their skin colour.

  • Hide/show background and detail.

  • Change the overall colour scheme to suit your brand colours.

  • Search by sector - Business, Education, Medical, Tech, People or Multi-purpose.

  • Save the image in various formats including GIF, MP4, SVG or PNG.

  • Animate your image.

INSIGHT

🧠Are you right-brained or left-brained?

Right-brain people

Right-brained people are those who think mainly using creativity and feelings. Instead of following strict steps or focusing on small facts, they like to see the whole picture and are good at imagination.

They often learn best by seeing things (visualizing) and are naturally talented at things like art, music, and telling stories. If someone is right-brained, they usually trust their gut feeling (intuition) and enjoy exploring new ideas freely, rather than sticking to clear rules or lists.

Think Pablo Picasso, Lady Gaga, Walt Disney, Steve Jobs, Steven Spielberg.

Left-brain people

Left-brained people are those who think mainly using logic, order, and details. Instead of looking at the big picture or relying on intuition, they focus on facts, rules, and sequences of steps.

They are excellent at tasks that involve reading, writing, math, and following instructions because they prefer things to be organized and linear. If someone is left-brained, they usually like to break down problems into smaller parts, analyse them step-by-step, and enjoy a planned, structured approach to work and life.

Think Sir Isaac Newton, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Sherlock Holmes

Here’s the twist: you never use just one side. Both sides of the brain are constantly texting each other like over-caffeinated co-workers.

Creativity needs logic; logic needs creativity!

For admin professionals, this blend is a superpower. Your left brain keeps things accurate and organised; your right brain helps you anticipate needs, improve workflows, and stay human in a role that’s all about supporting humans.

Probably the most famous person ambidextrous brain person you’ve heard of is Leonardo da Vinci, an incredible artist (right-brained) who was also a brilliant engineer and anatomist (left-brained).

“My shout!

When someone offers to buy you coffee, lunch or says “my shout” - Take it for what it is. A kind gesture.

Say thank you. Smile. Enjoy the moment.

What you don’t need to do is reply with, “Oh, you don’t have to!” or stage a polite tug-of-war over the bill. If they’re offering, it’s because they want to treat you.

Don’t turn generosity into an awkward mini debate.

Accept it graciously. Let people be kind. And yes—just say thank you.

TUESDAY VIBES

Non-productive but 100% boss-approved (maybe)

🥪What’s for lunch?

If there are no leftovers from dinner, are you lazy like me and don’t make the time to pack something else for lunch?

I rarely buy from the local cafe or takeaway, it’s too costly (often around $15 - $20 and often disappointing).

So, here’s what works well for me - I stock up the work freezer with frozen meals or fresh meals from the fridge section of the supermarket. I pick the healthy options particularly those that are high in protein, and only if they’re on special. It costs me on average $6 per lunch.

Check out this Choice Magazine review. The meals they tested didn’t cover all brands, and were limited to chicken, and pasta.

For what it’s worth, my favourite brands are:

  • Core Powerfoods

  • Lean Cuisine bowls (not the rectangle shaped ones)

  • Super Nature Wellness bowls

  • Strength Meals Co.

If you read the labels carefully, look for high protein, low sodium and sugar, they’re a good alternative to the local takeaway.

🎤⌨️Challenge

Can you sing your favourite song while you type? Now that’s good practice for using both sides of your brain at the same time!

Before you go…

🤣 This weeks laugh!

Someone said to me this week they didn’t want to get a bookkeeper because that person would see their debts and the poor financial position that they’re in. I said, “Don’t worry, Bookkeepers don’t care. Bookkeeping is like Gynaecology, once you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all.”

🎁 More ideas for Christmas gifts

I’ve had my Victorinox SwissCard for well over 20 years. It’s a credit card sized multi-tool that I keep in my wallet, and it comes out at the most random times! It has:

Scissors, nail file, screwdriver, tweezers, pen, small blade, cm and inch ruler, toothpick, protractor and a pin.

Remember my favourite app Snagit, the screenshot app on steroids?

When you click on the link, scroll down to the Snagit options. I use the $66 version and it sufficient for everyday use. Let me know what you think of it!

Until next week, be good, smile and be grateful for your family and friends.
