Hey, it’s Terry here. hows your last fortnight been? As good as mine has been I hope!

An article below talks about courage in the workplace. A couple of weeks ago I was a visitor at a Business Network Meeting. I felt like everyone except me got an email beforehand telling them to drink 3 cans of Red Bull before the meeting. They were all so hyped up, and quiet me felt out of place. 🫣

At the end of the meeting I was asked to stand up and give my thoughts on the meeting. Well I nearly sh!t myself! 😱 But after a deep breath I stood up and said exactly how I felt. Basically that it was sensory overload but I got a lot out of it and loved their motivation and energy.

I went home feeling empowered! All because I had the courage, number 1 - to attend a networking meeting (previous ones at other groups were horrible) and number 2 to tell them exactly how I felt. 🦁

I’ve been invited to attend again this Friday. Wish me luck. 🤞🏽🍀

🤣 P.S I’ve never had a Red Bull or energy drink in my life!

If you know a small business who needs help with their bookkeeping and/or needs some business support, please tell them about me, I’d be most grateful. My website is qwertyplus.com.au, check it out if you like. I’m also on Facebook. Thanks in advance! 🙏🏼

⏳Memtime

I love this app for tracking my time so I can confidently track and sometimes invoice my time. It also syncs time to Xero Projects.

The reason why it’s so different from every other timer is because it automatically records time in apps and windows while you work so you don’t have to remember what you’ve been doing for the last couple of hours.

You can view what you did in blocks of 1,5,15 or 30 minute blocks, or by the hour.

Catching up on Facebook at lunchtime? Simply right click Memtime in the icon tray at the bottom right of your window (near the clock) and click on Stop Tracking. Same place to restart tracking.

🗓️Excel - Current date and time

The Today formula below will always update when you re-open a spreadsheet.

The date and time combined will update when you refresh or re-open the spreadsheet.

🐌 Windows - Running slow?

Disk Cleanup is a built-in Windows utility tool designed to free up storage space by identifying and removing unnecessary files—such as temporary files, cache, and items in the Recycle Bin—from a computer's hard drive.

How to Use Disk Cleanup:

  1. Search for Disk Cleanup in the Windows start menu.

  2. Select the drive you wish to clean (usually C:) and click OK.

  3. Review the file types listed under "Files to delete".

  4. Optional: Click "Clean up system files" for a more thorough scan, which includes old Windows installation files.

  5. Click OK to remove the files.

🗞️Xero - Why you should publish your reports

If you are just saving reports as a PDF or exporting to Excel you might want to consider also publishing reports to create a finalised, read-only snapshot of your financials at a specific point in time, allowing you to lock data against accidental changes, track performance periods, and maintain accurate records for tax and auditing.

At the bottom of the report click Save As, then Published. Enter and save your settings. To find your published reports, go to Reporting menu in the blue bar, All Reports and select the Published tab just below the blue bar.

TUESDAY VIBES

Non-productive but 100% boss-approved (maybe)

🦁Courage

I dug deep this week at Crossfit and found a bucket load of courage to go further than I have before in a particular movement. In the workplace, I once built up the courage to tell my boss she was intimidating and I didn’t like it. We had a good chat she wasn’t such a bitch from there on after. 🐈

So this week, if you’ve been putting something off at work or home because you’ve been fearful of the outcome or response here are some tips to help build your courage:

  • Start with small risks to build your "courage muscle," such as speaking up in meetings or trying something new.

  • Courage is built when you act on your values, which makes it easier to take risks because you believe in what you are doing or saying.

  • Instead of imagining the worst-case scenario, focus on what you stand to gain. Believe that you can handle challenging situations.

  • Build the habit of courage by making "brave moves"—like saying "no" to protect your time or "yes" to new opportunities—part of your daily routine.

Note: if you’re wanting to build courage because you’re in a DV situation, that’s a different story, ignore my advice and seek help by phoning 1800RESPECT.

“You have plenty of courage, I am sure," answered Oz. "All you need is confidence in yourself. There is no living thing that is not afraid when it faces danger. The true courage is in facing danger when you are afraid, and that kind of courage you have in plenty.”

💅🏽You nailed it!

This week’s trivia is about your fingernails!

  • Hair and nails are made of keratin. To strengthen them eat broccoli, kale, salmon and sweet potatoes. 🥦🐠

  • Fingernails grow one-billionth of a meter each second. That’s roughly 3.47mm per month.

  • Around 3000BCE the Chinese created an early version of nail policy using gelatin, beeswax, egg whites, and crushed rose petals and orchids to produce different shades of red.
