Hey, it’s Terry here. Hope you’re having a great day! Got any plans for the upcoming weekend?

I’ve got 2 sore knees (one from falling over at the Sydney Easter Show 🌠) and the other is just stuffed. But apart from that I’m doing fine!

🫂This has got to be one of the most unusual businesses that I have ever heard of - the other day I met a lovely woman who is a Death Doula! She provides holistic emotional, spiritual, and practical support to dying individuals and their families. I found her story to be really fascinating.

If you know a small business who needs help with their bookkeeping and/or needs some business support, please tell them about me, I’d be most grateful. My website is qwertyplus.com.au, check it out if you like. I’m also on Facebook. Thanks in advance! 🙏🏼

In this week’s issue:

  • Connecting your mobile phone to your laptop

  • Quick way to search a PDF or webpage

  • Shortcut for changing dates in Xero

  • Small business - Super fund stapling - what is it?

  • Plus more…

TECHNOLOGY

💻 📱😍Connect your smartphone to Windows laptop

I use the Microsoft Phone Link feature and love it! Works on Android and iPhone.

💡 What can it actually do?
  • Read and reply to text messages from your computer. It’s easy for me to text screenshots and gifs I’ve made with instructions to a client, or when I have a long text to send, or when I’m sending the same text to multiple people, it’s quick to copy and paste the text, and send.

  • See phone notifications (calls, apps, messages) pop up on your screen. I’m quicker typing a response to a text on my laptop than on my phone.

  • Make and receive calls using your PC - you can turn this particular option on or off. You just need a good microphone and speakers. I have an external mic so no issues there for me.

  • Access photos instantly (no emailing them to yourself 🙃). This feature is gold! Right click a photo and save to your laptop. Easy peasy!

  • Use some mobile apps directly on your desktop (mainly Android). I haven’t tried it yet.

To start using Microsoft Phone Link, simply click on the Search button at the bottom of your screen and search Phone Link. Click here for more information.

⌨️Keyboard shortcut

💡 Find a word or phrase in a PDF or on a webpage
  • Press F3 (top row of your keyboard, and the Function key - bottom row of your keyboard) and a search bar pops up at the top right of the screen.

  • Enter the word or phrase you want to locate.

  • The page will scroll to the first instance of your search word/s, and it will be highlighted.

  • The search bar will also show you how many instances of that word/s appear in the window.

  • Click the up/down arrows to find the next instance of that word/s.

Press the function key and F3 key

🎯Xero - Shortcut when changing dates

When creating a transaction you don’t need to always enter the entire date!

Let’s say the date is currently set at 22/04/2026.

  • If you want to change just the day, say to the 15th and keep the month and year the same, just type 15 and enter.

  • If you want to change just the day and month to 15th March and keep the year the same, just type 15/3 or 15.3 and enter.

📨 A short but great email 😊

I got this email from someone who I had sent a reminder to, and it reminded me that it’s ok to loosen up a bit sometimes and not sound so corporate like. It was very refreshing!

Hey, Terry!
Copying in the boss man.
Thanks for your patience while we get into the rhythm.
Awesome,
Jackson

TUESDAY VIBES

Non-productive but 100% boss-approved (maybe)

💳Credit card surcharges scrapped

Is the Government dumb or what? Will those businesses who currently charge their fee on top simply wear the change? Of course not. The majority of businesses will increase their prices (so they should) so they’re not out of pocket.

Nothing will change for consumers so what’s the point?

🚗Fuel saving ad

While I’m bagging the Government, I wonder what percentage of Australians think it’s ok for $20m of our hard-earned tax to be spent on a campaign encouraging us to save fuel by removing roof racks, emptying the car boot and pumping up the tyres. Oh FFS!

Before you go…
